Frequently Asked Questions:

What is "normal" behavior?
What is normal behavior for a dog? Better yet, what is NOT normal? Aggression of any type, pulling on a leash, jumping, barking, fearfulness--these are NOT normal behaviors in dogs, yet owners accept this behavior! We will teach you to how to avoid situations and how to handle situations when they pop up. If you spend a little time each day working with your dog you will have the rewarding relationship you imagined when you decided to get a dog.

Why doesn't my dog listen to me?
Dogs don’t understand English, so negotiating, pleading, and yelling won’t work! Yes, they do recognize words, especially when used with hand signals. Dogs feel your energy, and are keen observers of body language. If you are angry or frustrated, or if you are yelling at your dog, he or she will see you as an unstable leader. Dogs are not people--human psychology doesn’t work on them! Dogs respect and follow calm, stable leaders, and will relax and be a dog once they realize someone else is in charge. We are not saying you can't love your dog. Give them the basics, when they follow the rules, reward the good behavior and LOVE them while they are good. Correct the bad behavior and move on. We are here to show you the way!

Can I still be affectionate with my dog?
Of course! But not until he has a stable mind…a calm energy. This is the time to show affection. We don’t want to reward an excited, fearful, or otherwise unstable mind.

Can I allow my dog on the furniture?
Of course! But only when you invite them. Set the rules and be consistent.

What Happens to “Bad Dogs”?
Dogs with issues such as jumping on people, barking incessantly, showing aggression to people or other dogs—are frequently relinquished to shelters where they are labeled “unadoptable,” and euthanized for their behavior problems. We want to change this! Very few dogs are truly unadoptable. Most dogs labeled as “bad dogs,” are not BAD--they have never had any leadership, and have developed undesirable behaviors in its absence.

Do you make house calls?
Yes, along with public events and group classes we will come to your home. Each "house call" is different. If you are interested in having one of us come to your home, please ask us to send you a client profile. This will allow us to get a feel for what issues you are facing in your home.
